STICKING UP FOR PILOTS - OUT OF AFRICA – INTEGRITY

Minister of Aviation, Mallam Isa Yuguda, yesterday read a riot act to local and international airlines over what he described as unbecoming breaches of rules and guidelines by the operators as he threatened to wield the big stick if the operational breaches were not stopped.

Yuguda announced the revocation of Ambjek Airline operating licence as a penalty for the company's management for sacking one of its pilots following disagreements on safety issues.

"I will not hesitate to revoke, ban, or withdraw the licence of any pilot or operator that violates laid down regulations. Nigeria is not a lawless country and we need to be held accountable for our actions," the minister told a special meeting of local and foreign airlines at Le Meridien Hotel in Abuja.

If only our own UK Regulators could deal with wrongdoing in aviation in this fashion – and wield the big stick when airlines argue with its pilots over safety issues.
